Welcome to Birch Bay Retrievers located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We raise and breed performance golden retrievers. While our personal focus is on the retriever field trials, our dogs are also at home competing in obedience, hunting birds or being a family companion. These dogs are also good candidates for agility or search and rescue.

Before we breed a dog, they must prove themselves in the field. Furthermore, they must have their health clearances, including hips, elbows, heart, eyes and thyroid. We use the breed standard as a guideline for selecting the sire and dam in order to maintain the physical characteristics required for a working retriever. In addition, we select the sire and dam based on their intelligence, memory, courage and learning ability.

All our dogs are amateur trained and live in our home. Puppies are also raised in our home and socialized from birth.

Since these puppies are from performance lines, preference is given to working homes. In order to match the puppies to their new owners, we keep detailed information on each puppy. This information includes our observations as well as the results of an aptitude test administered by an individual the puppies do not know.
